By the way, people have been asking me about how Chupa Cabra House came to be so I moved this post from an apparently harder to find spot to here.

Chupa Cabra House History

Chupa Cabra House is a small record label with five (admittedly unpaid) employees. It began as Chupa Cabra Records, a DIY label that Timm Tayshun created to release handmade tapes of Fort Smith punk rock bands that he was involved with. In 1995 he released around fifty copies of MEN IN BLUE by his band AJF which they proceeded to give away for free, losing thirty bucks in the process and setting an economic trend with Timm Tayshun and music. In 1996 he released a homemade hip hop album released under the name MC SQUARE. He made around 100 copies and sold just enough to make his money back before giving away the rest for free.

Releases for the next seven years were infrequent at best.

In 2002 Timm Tayshun formed a new hip hop group called Left Leg Limpin and after a while they released an EP then a full album. They released 150 copies of each and watched them sell out. It did not occour to them to repress.

AFter that band split they formed another group called BLUNTSWORTH who gigged like crazy and put out 500 copies of their album DIRTY SIDE OF THE CITY before relicensing it Creative Commons and releasing it on the internet, specifically gearing it toward p2p networks and bit torrent users.

In late 2008 Timm Tayshun released a solo album that is considered the first "professional" release by the newly renamed Chupa Cabra House.

In October 2009 Chupa Cabra House released an album by Jim Dick and the Pocket Aces marking the first release by a non-Timm Tayshun band and the first tenuous steps into real record-labelhood.

One more record is planned in 2009, WHO KNOW WHERE I BE? by THE SUPER SMASHED BROTHERS. Timm Tayshun's sophomore effort called FIERCE FEELINGS is slated for release on Jan 1st 2010.

Chupa Cabra House intends on putting out between 8 and 12 albums in 2010.
